Academy Group 5 enjoyed an insightful, engaging and very thought-provoking session from psychologist and web-consultant Graham Jones on “Web Success for Your Business”. Rather than just the usual techie and/or design driven session, Graham really focuses on what motivates web users and uses this to illustrate how most companies’ websites are still very wide of the mark as tools to capture business or add value for existing customers.

He really challenged our assumptions about what works and what doesn’t – and proved his case with data and statistics relevant to members’ sites – we all went away with new actions and intentions as a result of this session, for which he scored an overall 9.1 out of 10 – an excellent morning!

My key takeaways were:

  • This really is a strategic issue for all businesses
  • Each website should have only one very clear purpose – so maybe we need several different websites (or at least landing pages). Clarity of purpose is critical.
  • Your web-strategy needs to be reviewed frequently to ensure relevance and best-practice
  • Use conventional off-line marketing to promote on-line presence
  • News pages and landing pages need to be tailored and customised for individual sub-categories of visitors

Good business leaders, like you, often feel very alone. Running a business is tough. Key decision making, company direction, clarity of strategy, personal development; it’s a huge responsibility and it’s entirely yours. Little wonder you’re sometimes sleepless in the small hours or struggling to answer those really big questions.
Who can you turn to for totally impartial advice?

Thank you for the opportunity to speak with your group and glad to have been of some help. I always enjoy these sessions because they use “live”, real examples and I never know what we are going to find…! And I am always grateful for people volunteering to put their web presence under the spotlight.
