Enterprise City High Growth Programme boosts local economy

The Enterprise City High Growth Programme is a business mentoring programme managed by Birmingham City Council and delivered by Deloitte with the Academy for Chief Executives.

Local entrepreneur Mick Davies of MAD Computer Solutions has successfully used support from the programme to grow his business, creating local jobs and increasing turnover.

Case Study

MAD Computer Solutions LtdMick Davies of MAD Computer Solutions shares some of his recent success. A supplier for SME IT systems, providing on-site computer repair and networking support, websites and web blogging, he joined the Enterprise City High Growth programme in September 2010. With the support offered by the programme Mick and his business are now growing to reach their full potential.

Since joining the programme MAD has moved from being home based into it’s own offices, increased turnover by over 10%, hired a full-time trainee and under the young apprenticeship scheme helps someone who works one day a week to gain skills in an office environment. However Mick doesn’t want to stop there and is currently undergoing discussions about taking on a full time apprentice for next year.

So why did Mick Davies choose the Enterprise City High Growth Programme? Working as a ‘one man band’ seven days a week he was looking for some support and a sounding board for ideas about how to take the plunge to expand. Although a keen networker, he struggled for time, and so the structure of the programme suited him perfectly. Mixing with other businesses in the local area has been really beneficial; not only has he increased his contacts but also actually gained some new customers from other programme participants. The peer group mentoring component of the programme allowed Mick to see other participant’s business challenges and discuss the best way to address them. The one-to-one mentoring really helped Mick reach his full potential and helped him focus. As he said “the full package works really well”.
